01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

One diner recalls hearing the sound of a knife chopping fish as the kitchen prepared the mixed namero. On that occasion, the dish featured six kinds of sashimi, including hon-maguro bluefin tuna, water octopus and sea bream. The miso seasoning brought out the fish’s savoury flavour and, the diner said, made them want another sip of sake. It is a dish to consider if you enjoy fish with a drink.

The menu at Retto also includes tororo isobe-age with quail egg. One diner found that a little salt brought out the sweetness of the yam, whose soft, airy texture offers a contrast to the fish dishes.

There is a broad selection of sake. The menu describes Miyoshikiku Kimoto as fruity, while Jōkigen Junmai Ginjo is presented as dry. It is the sort of place where you can choose a few dishes and drinks at a measured pace.

For a final bite, choose an onigiri with salt, salmon, plum, mentaiko, or kombu and wasabi. Reservations are available, and the calm atmosphere makes Retto an option for a meal shared over conversation.
